How many employees do we have? None! From the core group of board members and weekly volunteers to our member families to our local neighbors, churches and service organizations, we all volunteer our time, skills and energy as we are able...and, yes, we can always use more help! Welcome to the Jose’s Closet opportunity to make a difference in the lives of foster and adopted children. We provide member families with a clean, easy-to-shop facility. The ways you can help make this come together for them are only limited by our ability to imagine the possibilities. Below you will find what we have discovered so far. Please feel free to add to the list!

If you would like to hear more about Jose's Closet or need a speaker for your event, we can come 'tell the story' (it's inspiring and informative) and explain what we are about. Please give Wendy Esquibel, our Founder/Director, a call at 480-313-8496 for arrangements. No fee is charged.

Just a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing...

Funding Our Mission

After fostering children herself over many years and receiving a request from Jose to "be remembered somehow", Wendy was moved to create Jose's Closet in 2009, recognizing the many challenges fostering families face as a new child comes into their home. During 2015, relocation of our facility became necessary and we were very excited to find a better situation that gave us the space to keep up with our growing clientele and to expand the number of items that we offer. However, the extra rooms and more modern facility brought with them a much higher rent and a significant increase in our utilities. Although we have initiated many cost containment measures over 2016, finding organizations and individuals who can regularly (or even occasionally!) do fundraising for us had to become a top priority. Please consider contacting Wendy Esquibel at with your ideas or personal contacts. Also, we are happy to help with organizing an event or fund raising drive to provide these most basic of 'operating expenses'...which are really the only expenses we have since we are an all volunteer organization. Again, those monthly 'cash' expenses are our greatest need right please take a look at doing a AZ Tax Credit-able gift and/or a larger donation that is also deductible on your federal income taxes. Thank you for all your support in the past and anything you can do at this time.

If you are looking for specific ways to help out immediately, we can always use the following:    TAX CREDIT NOW  AVAILABLE HERE!!

In-Kind Donations

Below are a few examples of what's been done recently:

  • Diaper Drive:  in your area or at your work, conduct a 'disposable baby supplies' collection drive. We often have to go purchase such high demand items as diapers, baby wipes, shampoo/lotion and formula, and so we always, always need more.
  • Backpacks and School Supplies:  every year we give out hundreds of backpacks with key supplies included inside. Usually, a donation drive is set up through your church, ward, employer, women or men's club, scout troop, friend's church or other social organization you are part of.
  • Holidays Toy Drive: churches, wards and businesses have put together 'fill the bin with toys' or provided an 'angel tree' with specific requests that employees pick and purchase for the family member. For the 'Angel Tree' call us by November 1st (480-309-1743) and we will provide you with first names, clothing sizes, toys they want, etc. Gifts will need to be dropped off by December 1st. If dropping off your items is not possible, please make arrangements for pick up by one of our holiday elves volunteers by calling Karla at 480-309-1743. Thanks!
  • Gently used and new Sports Balls and Equipment for 6 to 16 Years Old:  a labeled bin/box placed at a retail store (like Starbucks which welcomes the chance to help charities).
  • Clothing/Baby/Child-to-Teen Equipment Drive in your HOA, mobile home park, neighborhood, church or social service/recreational club.
  • Women's Guild Annual Baby Shower for Jose's Closet
  • Hire a truck and fill it with 'gently used' and new 'stuff' from your friends, neighbors and  acquaintances.
  • Your creative idea that has never been done before'...thanks!
